Why purchase this 1752 Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel Silver Thaler commemorating the White Swan Mine?
The Principality of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel was a German state located in the northwest region of the German Empire, under the rule of Prince Karl I from 1735-1780. In 1752, Karl issued a series of silver coins to honor the success of five of his silver mines: the "White Swan," "Lauthenthal's Luck," "Goodness of the Lord," "Rainbow" and "King Karl" mines. This coin measuring approximately 40 mm in diameter was struck at the Zellerfeld Mint as a tribute to the Wiesser Schawn (White Swan) mine.
Beautiful Image Details
A swan is depicted on the reverse, gracefully swimming on a lake near a rocky shoreline, with the mountains of the White Swan Mine beyond and a few clouds in the sky above. German inscriptions include the name of the mine and date.
The obverse features an incredibly detailed representation of the crowned Coat of Arms for the Principality of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel at the time of issue, supported by two bearded wild men.
